With the Union government gearing up to declare 2018 as the ‘Year of Millets’, a restaurant that exclusively serves food prepared with millets is a great idea.
Welcome “The Good Grain”, a newly opened cool food place on Residency Road in Bangalore, that serves not only healthy and nourishing food, but has formulated your favorite foods into delicious and familiar recipes.
So, what is The Good Grain all about and how did it get its name? Actually, it’s in the name itself, an absolute description of the cuisine you can expect to find here. Boldly, The Good Grain does away with grains like rice and wheat, and instead bases its cuisine on millets, the latest and hottest food topic of this decade! And while they’ve done away with rice, they have gone to great lengths to successfully reproduce traditional local cuisine (be it the evergreen Bisi Bele bath or Tomato bath) with the supremely healthy range of millets.
Advised and encouraged by most doctors and people aware of its health benefits, this healthy, natural grain is now available in all your favorite forms, including delicious preparations of items like Andhra Biryani, Puliyogare, Millet Puri/Aloo, Bajra Roti and Ragi idlis. There is also a delightful choice of ethnic curries for the non-vegetarian connoisseur, including Chicken Lapeta Kabab and Malabar Fish Curry.
The Good Grain undeniably emphasizes nutrition along with authentic taste, yet maintaining reasonable prices. The team of cooks are a diverse group from Kerala, Karnataka and North India. The ambience is simple, yet bright and tasteful, with pleasant music to augment the mood.
Millets like Foxtail, Little, Kodo, Proso, Barnyard, Sorghum, Pearl and Finger Millets are all expertly used to reproduce the same magic as in the traditional (rice/wheat) recipe, fortified with a strong dose of good health. Not only does this cuisine attract the young and health conscious who are intent on maintaining a low carb/high protein diet, it also caters to a generation of people who are at risk for (or already have) Diabetes, High Cholesterol and other common ailments which have severely restricted their diet and lifestyle.
The Good Grain also offers a one-of-a-kind lunch option: Make your Bowl. Customers get to build their own food platter (bowl) from a selection of fresh veges, meats, grain and dessert, as well as a choice of beverage. This offering is at lunch only, and the menu changes daily.
If you’re in the mood for a chill out place just to enjoy a cuppa, look no further. With an impressive choice of tea and coffee as well as some cool health drinks to choose from, The Good Grain is likely to become your favorite hangout before long! The snack menu is a delightful innovation, with a wide choice of inimitable items including Thatte Keema Idli, Chettinad (vermicelli) Upma, Sweet Potato fries and Soya Kebab.
However, do remember to keep room for the yummy Organic Ice- cream and other mouthwatering desserts on offer!
Most of the products are made with Millets or other healthy alternatives like Brown Rice and Quinoa. Almost all the ingredients used at The Good Grain are organic, or certified natural. We source our raw produce directly from the farmer (wherever possible) and our tea, coffee and ice-cream are sourced from dedicated suppliers that are certified organic manufacturers. Our Ghee and other milk products like Paneer and Cheese are organic too.
Happy eating, healthy eating!
